Field Service / Installation Engineer - New College Graduate / Early Career Dresden, Germany | Full-Time | International Training Program Kick-start your engineering career with world class training, hands on technical work, and international experience at Applied Materials—the global leader in semiconductor technology.

As an Installation Engineer - Graduate Program, you are part of the Field Service Operations (FSO), Customer Engineer Team, and you will play a key role in bringing cutting-edge semiconductor equipment online at some of the world's most advanced manufacturing facilities.

Travel Up to 75% to Customer sites across the region What You’ll Do • Partner with Senior Customer Engineers to install, commission, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment at customer sites. • Support equipment startup and acceptance activities to ensure successful deployment and operational readiness. • Utilize digital diagnostic tools, equipment analytics, and troubleshooting methodologies to identify and resolve technical issues. • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on advanced electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas delivery systems. • Diagnose equipment performance issues and implement solutions with support from senior team members and technical experts. • Build strong relationships with customers through professional communication and technical expertise. • Maintain compliance with all safety, quality, and operational procedures while working in customer manufacturing environments. • Document maintenance activities, service reports, and technical findings accurately and professionally. • Support continuous improvement initiatives and other business needs as required.

While we support visa arrangements for the Taiwan training assignment, you must have the legal right to return and work in Germany after completing the 12‑month training program • Candidates must be able to travel freely within Europe and hold all necessary documentation to support international business travel. • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% Preferred Qualifications • Exposure to field service, maintenance, manufacturing support, installation engineering, or a related technical environment through internships, placements, or early career experience • Basic mechanical and technical aptitude involving pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum systems, or thermodynamics • Knowledge of automation, robotics, process equipment, or precision manufacturing technologies • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and test equipment, including digital multimeters • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics • Exposure to semiconductor equipment or in cleanroom environments • Exposure to supporting customers in a technical field service capacity We welcome candidates from industries such as • Semiconductor Manufacturing • Industrial Automation • Aerospace • Automotive Manufacturing • Robotics • Precision Equipment Manufacturing • Medical Device Manufacturing • Military Technical Operations Physical Requirements • Walk and stand for extended periods • Work in tight spaces and at heights • Climb stairs and ladders • Bend, squat, kneel, reach, and twist regularly • Lift and carry materials up to 35 lbs. (approximately 16 kg) • Distinguish between colors and work safely with electrical systems • Work in environments with elevated noise levels • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively As this role is frequently performed within semiconductor manufacturing cleanrooms, employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields where required.

As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues.

Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.

This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who value precision, discipline, and structured learning, and who are adaptable enough to succeed in very different cultural and operational environments.

Working alongside experienced Customer Engineers, you'll gain hands‑on exposure to complex technologies, solve challenging technical problems, and directly impact customer success.

We empower our Installation Engineer - Graduate Program through comprehensive on-the-job training and the use of advanced digital tools and immersive technology, including Augmented Reality (AR) to support the systems and processes that underpin everyday semiconductor chip production.

What You’ll Learn You’ll participate in an immersive training program at our state‑of‑the‑art facility in one of our global training centers and on-the-job training at customer fabs, where you’ll gain expertise in: • Semiconductor manufacturing technologies • Advanced vacuum and plasma systems • Equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting • Customer-facing technical support • Cleanroom operations and best practices • Installation and optimization of highly sophisticated manufacturing equipment Minimum Qualifications • You hold, or are on track to complete, a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree (graduated in 2025 or graduating in 2026) in Electrical engineering / Mechanical engineering / Mechatronics, Military technical training / Trade certification • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint • Ability to meet all customer site requirements, including safety, environmental, and health‑related protocols • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Valid driver’s license • Valid authorization to live and work in Germany (work visa or residency permit).
